Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
